The joys of spaciousness
This morning, as I shook each student’s hand when they entered the building, I was greeted with smiles, hugs, and fresh new hairdos. “Welcome back!” I exclaimed, feeling like the first day of school. How wonderful it is to miss the students and feel that warmth of their energy when they return. What a tremendously wonderful way to spend our days, educating young people and ushering them into the world as independent thinkers and change agents. As we embark upon the last 41 days of the school year, we are able to do so with the momentum created from 10 days of spaciousness during the break. Sometimes you have to go away to enjoy returning.
Happy week 32, all!

Let’s Celebrate the 10 Days of CNH!
Every school day between May 6th and May 17th, we will have a different event for the students and staff to celebrate CNH. Each day represents one year of the school’s existence. We are going to take an aerial photo of the school, make t-shirts with the 10-Year logo on them, have a community clean-up to care for our school grounds… It’s going to be a fantastic line-up! Keep an eye out for an email with opportunities to join us, volunteer, and celebrate our amazing school!
PARCC Testing (Grades 3-8) begins this week
See below for a letter from our Testing Coordinators and the schedule so that you know when your child will be testing. (This letter and schedule were sent home with your child today in their backpacks. We will also mail the letter home to all families, grades 3-8.)
Dear Parent or Guardian:
As your child grows and learns during the school year, we want to determine what he or she knows and how well he or she can perform in core academic skill areas. We are writing to inform you that City Neighbors Hamilton will administer the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) this spring. Detailed results from these assessments help families to understand their child’s needs and strengths and work with their school to identify resources to support their child’s education. Schools can use the information to better plan instruction, support, and enrichment for students in the coming year and strengthen instruction for all students.
In Maryland, the PARCC Mathematics and English Language Arts/Literacy (ELA) assessments are required for students in grades 3-8, and for high school students. At our school, all students in grades 3-8 will take the PARCC assessment on computers. Please rest assured that students with identified learning needs will be provided necessary accommodations per their individual plans (IEP, 504). While we understand that this is a lot of testing, we have worked hard to assure that there is minimal disruption to the school day.
Please see the reverse side of this letter for dates of assessments.
We ask for your assistance in encouraging your child to do his or her best, assuring they have a good night’s rest, a filling breakfast, and that they are present and on time to school.
As always, thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Clara Walter & Kim Farley
CNH Testing Coordinators
