Saturday was a beautiful day — great for the body and great for the soul.  It was so great to have CNHers here to celebrate Earth Day at CNH with social-distanced gardening, painting storm drains, and composting.  Brownie Troop #260 even came to help! Thank you to our Community Relations and Facilities committees for making this day a success!  As masks and social distancing have become a norm in our world, it is nice to find ways to still enjoy each other’s company and help the school together. (Please note, those who are close to one another in the photos are with their families.

Happy Week 32, everyone!

–Dr. Shyla.

Update on In-Person Learning

The first two weeks of in-person learning on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays has been tremendously successful.  Although being faced with continuous internet glitches, the students and teachers on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays have been patient, resilient, and persistent.  Last week a middle school student met me with excitement about how they have completed missing assignments and increased their grade up to B+ in Humanities! “School” definitely feels different than how CNH has always felt, but the love and dedicated attention of the teachers is pervasive.  This on-ramp for almost 25% of our students is helping us consider how we will (hopefully) be able to open fully in the fall and maintain the CNH culture, while supporting each learner in the ways that they need. With half of our days outside, hot or cold, rain or shine, the students have been amazing troopers!

Physical Fridays have been hands-on, fun, surprisingly cold, and still a celebratory on-ramp for a little over 30% of our students to feel connected to school, learn new skills in dance and art, engage with projects such as mural design and gardening, and enjoy being at school.

So far, all of our pooled testing has come back negative, meaning no positive cases at CNH. Citywide, the pooled testing is proving to be a successful mitigation strategy — even in the schools that have had positive cases, the testing has caught it before any transmission has occurred.  We are making sure to maintain our vigilance for safety precautions and awareness and will continue to communicate with you all along the way.
