Please consider dropping by during your lunch break or for dinner. All proceeds will support the 8th grade project work in Puerto Rico. Make sure you show the flyer, linked below, or the photo below on your phone when you order. If you are ordering online, use the code 305988. Committee Night: Tuesday, 12/10, 5:30-7 PM–
Dinner & Childcare Included!
Every family is required to join at least one committee each year to help support the work of the school. In order to help make your committee involvement easier and more streamlined, we have created Committee Nights from 6-7 PM on the second Tuesday of every other month.
Before the meeting, at 5:30, we provide dinner for you and your school-aged children, as well as free childcare for school-aged children. Your voice is important to make the committee work meaningful!
If you have any questions about Committee Night, please contact Board President, Erika Coughlin, at ecoughlin@cityneighborshamilton.org.
See you on Tuesday!

Inclement Weather Policy Review
Okay, this sounds crazy considering temps are supposed to reach 60 on Tuesday, but snow is in the forecast for Wednesday, December 11, so in case there is stickage and the need for BCPS to delay opening schools, time to dust off the Inclement Weather Policy (in case of late opening tomorrow–a Wednesday–please note dismissal at 2 PM):
City Neighbors Hamilton follows the Baltimore City Schools inclement weather policy. For information about school closings, delays, and early dismissals, please consult your local television or radio stations. If Baltimore City Schools close, delay opening, or close early due to inclement weather, City Neighbors Hamilton will close, delay opening, or close early for the corresponding amount of time.
DELAYED OPENING:
Arrival: Classes begin at 10:15,
Dismissal: In the event school opening is delayed on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays, dismissal will be at the usual time: 3:15. In the event school opening is delayed on Wednesdays or any other early release day, dismissal will be at 2 PM. (Baltimore City Schools requires a school to be in session for a minimum of four hours.)
EARLY CLOSURE:
Arrival: Classes begin at 8:15, as usual.
Dismissal: In the event school closes early on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays, dismissal will be at 1:15. In the event school closes early on Wednesdays or any other early release day, dismissal will be at the usual time, 1 PM.
- There will be no aftercare or after-school activities on days when schools are closed or close early due to inclement weather.
- All events scheduled for the morning when schools are closed or the opening is delayed will be canceled. Breakfasts are not served at school on days when BCPS delays opening schools.
- If BCPS cancels its afterschool programs and events due to inclement weather, there will be no after-school events at CNH, including aftercare.

Diversity Spotlight:
What Does Diversity Mean for the Way We Do Things at CNH?
Welcome back to Diversity Spotlight! At the end of last school year, we discussed the wide range of factors that can contribute to diversity in our community. Diversity is certainly something to celebrate. But as we celebrate, we should consider ways that our society can translate differences into disadvantages. To that end, let’s consider three related concepts: diversity, inclusion, and equity.
Some define diversity as the presence of difference in a group. (One person cannot “be diverse,” and saying so can make people feel excluded.) Inclusion means welcoming and valuing people of all backgrounds. Equity means making sure everyone gets the same opportunities, recognizing that a particular aspect of difference can create a barrier or advantage to a particular opportunity. Many organizations try to make policy with an “equity lens.” (Here’s a helpful guide: https://bit.ly/2OrifPm.) We can think about how the CNH experience might be different for a child or family or staff member based on some part of their background.
Question: Can you think of one particular way that CNH should factor diversity, inclusion, and equity into decision-making?
We have created a CNH Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Google group and invite you all to join and participate in discussions and to share resources. Please join us in this important discussion by going to: https://groups.google.com/a/cityneighborshamilton.org/forum/#!forum/diversity . If you have any questions, please reach out to Lawrence Lanahan at llanahan@gmail.com.
Talk to you next month and see you in the group!
