The Classroom Support Committee NEEDS YOU!
Need volunteer hours? Have an hour or two to complete some simple organization and clean up projects for the school?
Our teachers have a wish list of small projects that will help make our school a better place, such as:
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Ordering and placing bookplates in books donated by her family for the Obi Okobi Memorial Library at school.
- Using a label machine to label computer cords and pair them with the proper Chromebooks.
- Research vendors (or even better – a donation!) and coordinate installation of an outdoor bulletin board to be affixed to the stage wall for school and community announcements.
- Sorting and organizing books in the upstairs copy room.
-
-
-
-
-
-
There are many more manageable, easy-to-complete projects on the Classroom Committee’s wish list. To take one on, please contact Mary Alice at myeskey@cityneighborshamilton.org. Thank you!

Turn Out and Turn It Up!
It’s Time To Act! – Make A Difference in Public Education
This year, we in Maryland have the opportunity to pass historic educational reform – the Blueprint for Maryland Schools (Kirwan Commission). This legislation will significantly increase resources for our schools and re-shape early childhood education, teacher preparation, and other important elements of our educational system.
Thank you to everyone who turned out in Annapolis yesterday to represent! The turnout was amazing! Please take a moment to thank those who supported this legislation: Speaker Adrienne Jones: https://www.facebook.com/2292917797435671/posts/2908586375868807/?d=n Senator Bill Ferguson: https://www.facebook.com/2292917797435671/posts/2908586375868807/?d=n
Next Advocacy Opportunity: We need you on Thursday, February 27!. City Neighbors is sending a delegation to Annapolis with Strong Schools Maryland that day. That morning, we will visit legislators and advocate for the Blueprint legislation. Arrive by 9 in Annapolis, leave no later than noon. We are looking for 15-20 people! If you can make it, contact Mike at mchalupa@cityneighbors.org.
Please join us in our efforts to show Maryland legislators that we need to fully fund education in Maryland. If you would like to join the Advocacy Team, email Gwendolyn Unoko, Director of Community Programs, at gunoko@cityneighbors.org.
Thank You,
Your CN Advocacy Team
Demand Maryland Legislators Fully Fund our Schools!
The Kirwan Commission (Blueprint for Maryland Schools) conducted a three-year study on Maryland schools and found that “as of 2015, our schools have been underfunded $2 million a year.” The commission is recommending a statewide increase to the education budget of $4 Billion to close the gaps. For more information visit https://www.marylandblueprint.org/learn-more/.
Let our State delegates know what you think!
