Here we are, everybody — the last full week of the school year. Monday and Tuesday are the last full days of school. Wednesday through Friday (half days) are the last Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of the school year. Next Monday and Tuesday are our last asynchronous days for end of year celebrations, rain dates of events from this week, and final technology and materials returns.

I started the year stating that “When the world is flipped on its head, at least you get a new perspective.” With this new perspective, we changed our daily schedule, rethought student groupings, built upon strengths and supported academic needs of students, and, most importantly, we kept student wholeness and social-emotional well-being at the forefront of every decision we made. I look forward to this summer, after we all can collectively take a few deep breaths, when we can join in various working groups and allow our new perspectives to inform how we begin next year.

Thank you, as always, for your partnership, your frequent and thoughtful communication, and your flexibility in this unbelievably challenging school year. I woke up from a dream this morning that we were back in school, the kids were all over the hallway working on a project of some sort, and I was walking a guest through the building. The guest asked me how we are managing all of this — and I replied, “With love.” Yup, that about sums it up.

Happy Week 38!

–Dr. Shyla

Family Participation Hours

Hip-Hip Hooray! We achieved our  school-wide goal of 3,000 Family Participation hours! Thanks to your participation, we can tell the school district, our funders, and our community that our families truly support our school!

How high can we go? Think you still need to record your hours? It’s not too late!

 You can log hours for:

  • Time spent facilitating your student’s distance learning (i.e. helping them log onto their classes, troubleshooting access issues, navigating Google Classroom, asynchronous learning activities, etc.) – You can record hours by week or even by month!

  • Participating in the workday this weekend, class closing celebrations, or other school events;

  • Setting up virtual “playdates”, a virtual book club or other enrichment activity;

  • Watching a City Schools Board meeting;

  • Posting in the City Neighbors Hamilton Families Facebook group and following up on it (.25 hour increments);

  • Attend a CNH Virtual Committee Night, Family Nuts and Bolts meeting, and/or Board Meetings; and

  • Attending a Parent-Teacher Conference.

If you want to know what activities we already have on record, you can request an up-to-date report by using the form on this page: Request your volunteer hours report

Thanks for all you do for our kids and our school!
