A Reason to Celebrate

Most of our days are filled with a monotony of the expected. We wake up, brush our teeth, and go through the day with our usual routines, heading home to go to bed and start all over again the next day. This’s and that’s shake up the routine, but overall most of our days resemble one another filled with mimetic routines.

There are ways that we can make our small habitual (mimetic) routines special, like dripping cream into our coffee one drop at a time to enjoy the ways in which the cream overcomes the blackness of the coffee. We could take a different path to school one day, one that takes longer but is a more beautiful journey. We can creatively approach our days and make the ordinary special.

At times, our daily routines of hard work, discipline, and even fun can lead us to master our goals and accomplish great things. Our 8th-grade class has spent the past 9 years working toward the goal of high school. Here they stand on the precipice of middle school looking at high school just a few months away. They made it! They have earned it!

Together, as a community, let’s celebrate the accomplishments of our students. This Wednesday, we can see learning on display all over the school at Gallery Night. And, on Thursday, June 13th, at 7:00, we can celebrate their accomplishments at the 8th-grade graduation in our auditorium.

Let’s allow ourselves to stop, reflect upon our days, and make the mimetic something special in our lives so that we can enjoy the journey to our next destination.

Thanks,

Shyla.

City Neighbors High School Farewell Walk

Wednesday 9:45

CNHS Seniors walk the halls as our K-8 students cheer them on toward graduation. It is such a beautiful tradition for our little ones to see themselves in our graduating Seniors. Some students hold signs congratulating them (feel free to make one at home), some cheer loudly, and some give a high five. You may want to talk with your child about the significance of high school graduation and why this is a beautiful moment to celebrate our City Neighbors family.

Last Week of School — Short Days

Monday, June 17 through Thursday, June 20 will be short days at City Neighbors. We will end each day at 1:00.

UEC will provide aftercare starting at 1:00 each day. You should be receiving an email from them describing the process for aftercare on these days.

Summer Camp Orientation

Sharon Jackson, Director of the City Neighbors summer camp, will host an orientation on June 4th, 5:30-6:15 at CNH. Please email Sharon at sjackson@cityneighbors.org with any questions.

8th Grade Graduation

Thursday, June 13th, 7:00 pm

Join us in the auditorium to celebrate our 8th grade graduates! Witness our teachers give “warm diplomas” to each student, reading fun memories specific only to each student and celebrating that which makes each person known, loved, and inspired.

Come as a guest or come to help make it a sucdess! We are looking for volunteers to help with set-up, greeting families as they arrive, and serving cupcakes at the reception. It’s a super fun way to earn your Family Participation time!
