This weekend, I pondered the question, “What does it mean to mother?” For many years, I “mothered” students, nieces/nephews, godchildren, and my pets.  I made great efforts to love them, nurture them, and support them in who they were and who they would become. As our country celebrated Mother’s Day yesterday, you might have reached out to folks who are mothers in the traditional sense in your life. As you consider what it means to “mother”, I wonder if there might be any other people you might want to contact and share gratitude for in your life? What might you say to them?  How might you acknowledge them?   To all of our mothers, mother figures, moms to children, moms to dogs or cats, moms with or without partners, children of moms, etc., I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day this weekend (and the days to come)!

Have a great week!

–Dr. Shyla.

A Letter From Incoming Principal, Jabari Bush

Hello CNH Friends and Family,

It is with great excitement that I share this letter of introduction with you as the new Principal of City Neighbors Hamilton. Throughout my 15-year career within the world of public education, having served in both instructor and administrative roles, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich tradition of progressive education! I have had the honor of working with students ranging in age from 1st grade through post-college. Most recently, I served as an Assistant Principal at City Neighbors High School for 5 years. While I loved my experience as a high school administrator, my true passion has always been focused on creating strong learning foundations for students in the elementary and middle grades.

I am very eager to meet you all and am looking forward to building strong relationships as I work to partner with students, parents/guardians, and the community at large.  As partners, we will work together to ensure student success by focusing on character education initiatives, art integration, and after-school extra-curricular programming. One of my biggest areas of focus will be on the intentional use of authentic student data to drive instruction and to provide consistent implementation of our project-based, arts-integrated curriculum in a rigorous manner so that we can continue to increase all of the students’ achievements.

Over the next several weeks, I will be working with Mr. Mike Chalupa and Dr. Shyla Rao to ensure a smooth transition at the end of this school year. If you see me around the City Neighbors campus, please feel free to say hello, ask me any questions that you may have, or just offer a kind word of encouragement.   As the summer nears, I will reach out again more formally to find times that we can all connect and begin planning for the year and years ahead.

Again, I look forward to working with and alongside you all. Be kind. Be safe. Be well.

Jabari Bush

2021-2022 CNH Yearbook

We are so excited to share the return of the CNH Yearbook. Keeping with tradition, we had students submit their own cover designs and held a vote to determine the winner. Rowan McCabe’s colorful digital drawing will be highlighted on the cover this year. All student cover designs will be included and celebrated in the yearbook, as well. Thank you to all of the amazing student artists. Sales of the 2021-2022 CNH Yearbook are now open. Yearbooks will be distributed during the last week of school–June 13-15. 8th graders who order a yearbook will receive theirs at graduation.

MCAP Testing Schedule

Make sure your Middle School students come with charged Chromebooks and headphones each day, please!  It’s also important that all students get a good night’s sleep the night before each of their testing days. We will do our best to minimize the stress of testing and to help them remain centered and calm throughout each day.
